Have you ever had something ruined?
I was just thinking about this.
Back in junior high, I dated this girl for three months and her favorite band was The Used. She had every album by The Used, she knew every word to every song, and as you could probably guess, The Used eventually grew on me, whether I liked it or not.
I will admit, I did like The Used. I liked them prior to dating this girl, but not nearly as much as I did while we were together. I’m not sure if I liked them more just because she liked them, or if I was genuinely pleased with their brand of pop punk-ish alternative music.
As goes most grade school relationships, it didn’t last. It wasn’t a life changing event in any sense, but one thing did change. I could not bring myself to listen to The Used. It just brought back not “bad” memories, but a time in my life that was over and done with, and I didn’t exactly want to re-live it. Heartbreak is a part of growing up, and The Used just happened to be the soundtrack to mine.
I remember on my old iPod, I’d scroll through my library and see that I hadn’t listened to a single song by The Used since June of 2006. I’ve got a new iPod now, and The Used are not in my library of over 10,000 songs.
I don’t hold any regrets or bad blood over that little fling that happened back in 2006. She didn’t ruin my life, as I’ve moved on and found someone that suits me, but she did ruin The Used for me.
Have you ever had something ruined? Tell me about it.
